Things You Should ALWAYS Do:

Routine cleaning of dusting and vacuuming should be done at least once a week.

Be sure to remove spills promptly so to avoid staining and water marks. Cleaning can be done with non-abrasive recommended wood cleaner and warm water. Make sure that the water is wiped dry with a soft cloth!

Consider using area rugs in high traffic areas such as entry ways, where wear and tear may be higher than the rest of the room. Also, in areas where spills are more likely such as the kitchen, area rugs are a great lifesaver for your new floor.

Always use felt pads underneath furniture legs and appliances, to prevent indentions in the wood and scratching from moving.

When moving appliances and furniture always be sure to use a protective device such as a blanket or masonite board.

Not only for their own safety but also for the well-being of your hardwood or laminate floor, make sure to keep your pets nails well-groomed and trimmed. This will prevent scratching due to overgrowth.

Be sure to keep a constant humidity level within the home. Drastic changes in the room's humidity levels will result in cracks, swelling, shrinking, and excessive gaps between the boards.

What you should NEVER Do:
NEVER allow sand, dirt, dust or any type of gritty substance to accumulate. They act similar to sandpaper and eventually will cause abrasions and dull the finish.

Do NOT "damp mop" hardwood floors. Too much water will cause the floor to warp or swell.

Avoid walking on the floor with high heels and always keep your heels in good condition. This too, will prevent unnecessary scratching.

NEVER drag furniture, appliances, etc. this will definitely result in scratches and even indentions in the wood.
NEVER use a vacuum with beater bars! Invest in a vacuum with brush attachments for easy & safe cleaning.

AVOID unnecessary direct sunlight. The heat of the direct sun will eventually discolor the floor. Instead protect your floors with sheer curtains, blinds or curtains from the intense UV rays of the sun.
